Avalanche claims Nieto off waivers

The Colorado Avalanche has claimed forward Matt Nieto off waivers from the San Jose Sharks.

Nieto, 24, registered two assists and four penalty minutes in 16 games with the Sharks this season.

In 221 career NHL regular-season games, all with the Sharks, Nieto has accumulated 28 goals and 42 assists for 70 points and 50 penalty minutes.

The native of Long Beach, California, was originally drafted by the Sharks in the second-round, 47th overall, of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
