O'Reilly looking for big payday

If the Colorado Avalanche wants to avoid arbitration with Ryan O'Reilly, they better be prepared to pay up for the star center.

According to the Denver Post, O'Reilly is seeking a one-year, $6.75 million contract.

While O'Reilly is asking for a $250,000 raise, the Avs are looking to pay him closer to $5.525 million.

If the 23-year-old receives his desired salary, he would become the highest-paid player on the Avalanche roster.

Post beat reporter Adrian Dater indicates that O'Reilly and his agents are likely hoping the arbitrator selects a salary between both parties' desired requests, which could put him around $6 million.
