Duchene’s injury means he will sit out for the first round of the playoffs.
"He's playing so well right now," Avs head coach Patrik Roy said on Saturday prior to news regarding Duchene’s absence. "It's not good news for him and it's not good news for us as well, but it's been the way it's been all year. We always try to win hockey games and we're going to have to continue to find ways to win hockey games."
The 23-year-old has 23 goals in 71 games. He leads the team in points with a career-high of 70.
The Avs are currently second in the Central Division and have secured a playoff spot for the first time since 2009-10. The team has reached the 100 point mark this season for the first time in a decade.
