Giguere thinking of retirement?
TheFourthPeriod.com

Jean-Sebastien Giguere's career in the NHL might be coming to an end, as the Denver Post reports the veteran goaltender is thinking of retirement.

Giguere, 36, is in the final year of his contract and is set to become an unrestricted free agent July 1.

"Not 100 percent sure, but definitely leaning that way," Giguere told the Post of retirement. "You have to be honest with yourself, and (the end of the season) might be the time. But I don't want to talk about that right now. It's not the time or place."

The Avalanche is currently trying to sign newly-acquired goalie Reto Berra to a multi-year extension.

Berra was acquired for a second-round draft pick last week.

"We're presently working on signing him," Avs head coach Patrick Roy told the paper.

Roy indicated that Giguere will remain the backup to Semyon Varlamov for the rest of the season, as Berra will work with goalie specialist Francois Allair.
