The Denver Post was the first media outlet to move on the story, and beat reporter Adrian Dater spoke with Stephane about the story.
The Avalanche, who did not immediately comment on the report, told the Post this morning that no deal is in place.
Negotiations between the two sides, though, are ongoing.
Francois Gagnon of Montreal's La Presse reported this morning that Roy is seeking assurances from Colorado ownership that it will spend competitively -- at or close to the salary cap -- to ice a strong roster.
If the club shows Roy that they intend to do that, it will lead them closer to an agreement.
Prior to hiring Joe Sacco as head coach in 2009, the Avs spoke with Roy about the position, but were unable to come to terms on a deal, as Roy was reportedly looking for close to $3 million per season.
