Avs without Downie for rest of season
TheFourthPeriod.com

The Colorado Avalanche will be without forward Steve Downie for the remainder of the season after the forward tore his ACL on Tuesday night.

Downie, 25, left the game in the second period against the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday and did not return.

The Avs later announced that their gritty forward is expected to soon undergo surgery.

After being acquired from the Tampa Bay Lightning last February, Downie posted two goals and 11 assists for 13 points in 20 games with the Avalanche and was rewarded with a two-year deal with the club.

In the first two games of the 2013 season with the Avalanche, Downie posted one assist.
