Johnson to sign extension with Avs

The Colorado Avalanche is expected to sign defenseman Erik Johnson to a four-to-five year contract extension on Tuesday.

While the terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed, an online report claimed the deal is likely to be in the four- to five-year range.

The 24-year-old was on the market as a restricted free agent, having just completed his first full year with the Avs.

In 73 games with the Avs last season, he posted just four goals and 22 assists for 26 points for the year.

Johnson was selected first overall back in 2006, but struggled in his years with the Blues and Avalanche. He missed the entire 2008 season with a knee injury.
