The Colorado Avalanche have re-signed defenseman Shane O'Brien to a three-year, $6 million contract.
The 28-year-old could have become an unrestricted free agent on Sunday, but he agreed to sign a contract extension with the Avs.
O'Byrne will earn $1.8 million on the first year of the deal, $2 million in the second and $2.2 million in the third.
"Having Shane under contract further solidifies our blue line," said Avalanche GM Greg Sherman. "He brings energy to our lineup and we are pleased to have signed him to a multi-year deal."
In 76 games with the Avalanche this past season, O'Brien tallied three goals and 17 assists for 20 points.
