Mueller expects new contract soon

Avalanche forward Peter Mueller anticipates signing a new contract with the team before the start of training camp, the Denver Post reports.

Mueller, a restricted free agent, has recovered from the concussion that kept him out of the first-round of the playoffs.

"We have to run a few things past the doctors, then it will be good to go," Mueller told the Post.

"I'm trying not to think about it and let other people do their jobs and work everything out. I'm trying to work hard and be ready for the first day of camp."

Mueller, 22, made a base salary of $850,000 last season. He picked up nine goals in 15 games after being acquired from the Phoenix Coyotes.

"I know what I'm capable of doing," he said. "I got a chance (in Colorado). It's amazing what happens when you get a chance. I'm so eager to get back to the boys, with the club and make another great run and have a great season."
