The Colorado Avalanche is trying to lock up restricted free agent forwards Peter Mueller and Chris Stewart, but a deal for either player does not appear imminent.
The Denver Post reports the lines of communication between both player's agents and the Avs are wide open, but new contracts may not be likely until closer to training camp.
While none of the parties appear to be panicking, Mueller's agent, Anton Thun, explained to the Post why deals are taking longer to sign.
"What's happening is that there is a marketplace that's evolving," Thun said. "Some of them are evolving from arbitration awards. Some of them are evolving from other signings. The whole marketplace is being very cautious in terms of committing too soon. I think that's normal."
Mueller and Stewart, both 22, made $850,000 last season and are expected to each receive a significant raise on their new contracts.
