TheFourthPeriod.com

The Chicago Blackhawks have signed forwards Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane on eight-year contract extensions worth $84 million.

Toews, 26, and Kane, 25, will have their annual $10.5 million salary cap hit kick in for the 2015-16 season.

Toews became the youngest captain in Blackhawks history, third-youngest in NHL history, on July 18, 2008 and has guided the organization to two Stanley Cup championships during his time in Chicago.

He became the second-youngest player to win the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP in 2010, the franchise's first title in 49 years.

The Winnipeg native has recorded 195 goals and 245 assists for 440 points in 484 career regular-season games with the Blackhawks, since making his debut during the 2007-08 campaign.

He was originally selected by the Blackhawks in the first round, third overall, of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Kane has helped the Blackhawks to two Stanley Cup championships, as well, scoring the series-clinching goal in Game 6 of the 2010 Stanley Cup Final and winning the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2013.

The 2008 Rookie of the Year has been selected to participate in the NHL All-Star Game three times: 2009, 2011 and 2012.

The Buffalo native has registered 178 goals and 315 assists for 493 points in 515 career regular-season games with Chicago dating back to 2007-08.

He was selected first-overall by the Blackhawks in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
