However, while talks are progressing, and deals are believed to be getting closer, Pat Brisson, the agent for both Kane and Toews, shot down the rumors.
"It's not true," Brisson told TFP Editor-in-Chief David Pagnotta early Tuesday morning.
Kane and Toews have one-year remaining on their respective contracts. While they can become unrestricted free agents next summer, both are expected to sign extensions this month.
It was first reported in late June by TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie that Kane and Toews had asked for deals worth about $12 million, per year, to kick-start discussions.
It's believed Kane and Toews will both see their annual salaries fall around $10 million, though nothing has been finalized, as of Tuesday morning.
Kane and Toews signed identical five-year, $31.5 million contract extensions on Dec. 5, 2009. Their deals also include a no-movement clause for the 2014-15 season, which kicked in July 1.
