Bickell hopeful new deal will come

After capturing his second Stanley Cup championship on Tuesday, the first that will have his name engraved in hockey's Holy Grail, Bryan Bickell is now hoping to iron out a new deal with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Bickell, 27, is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent July 5 and the two sides will work on a new deal in the coming days.

"I definitely hope so," Bickell told Josh Rimer, host of NiteCap on, Wednesday evening. "I see the city as my second home and I love playing here.

"I want to be back for sure. My agent and I will talk in the next couple days."

Bickell is coming off a three-year, $1.625 million contract.

In all 48 games with the Blackhawks this past season, Bickell registered nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points, along with nine goals and eight assists for 17 points in 23 playoff games, putting him second behind Patrick Kane in team playoff scoring.

It's unclear what type of contract Bickell is looking for, though he will see his annual salary climb well above $2 million on a multi-year deal.

The Hawks also have several other UFAs-to-be to discuss, including forwards Michal Handzus, Jamal Mayers and Viktor Stalberg, defenseman Michal Rozsival, and goalie Ray Emery.
