"(Bowman's) been working on it for some time now," Quenneville said prior to the Hawks' 4-0 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday night. "We're down to a couple of days here. Hopefully we can add somebody and help our team."
Bowman has been shopping for help on the back end to improve the team's 2.90 goals-against-per-game, which ranks 24th in the league. The team is also hoping that a potential acquisition could have an influence in the locker room and off the ice.
"A player can make an immediate impact but it also kind of helps with the team because if it's the right guy ... it helps to energize all the other guys and realize that management really is moving all the chips in that year," defenseman Sean O'Donnell told the Tribune. "If it's the right fit, it can really help."
Meanwhile, the Hawks could soon get some help up front as captain Jonathan Toews is "progressing" in his recovery from an upper-body injury, which could possibly be related to concussion symptoms.
Quenneville has mentioned that "there's a chance" Toews could return to the lineup on Wednesday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
