Carcillo adds injury to suspension

Blackhawks agitator Daniel Carcillo could undergo surgery on his injured left knee after he completes his seven-game suspension for boarding Edmonton Oilers defenseman Tom Gilbert, reports ESPN Chicago.

The 26-year-old was hurt on the play that he earned his suspension, pushing Gilbert into the boards and then falling uneasily on his left leg.

"We're still trying to assess what we're going to do there," Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman told ESPN. "It's undetermined right now. The best course of action we should know soon. With injuries sometimes you have to decide is rehab going to get it to where it needs to go or not. We're not there yet."

Carcillo started his suspension on Thursday when the rest of his team faced the Philadelphia Flyers and will be eligible to return to action on Jan. 18 against the Buffalo Sabres, if he's healthy.

In 28 games with the Hawks this season, Carcillo has tallied two goals and nine assists for 11 points, and 82 penalty minutes.
