Blackhawks star winger Martin Havlat wants to stay in Chicago so badly, he's willing to take less than market value in order to get a deal done, a source told TFP.
Havlat, who made $6 million this past season, can become an unrestricted free agent July 1. He's unlikely to get the same salary on a new deal, although he could receive a new long-term contract worth around $4.5 million to $5 million per season.
According to a source close to the organization, Havlat's priority is to stay in Chicago, something he's relayed to his agent Allan Walsh, and he might even take just under market value to stay.
Walsh and Blackhawks GM Dale Tallon reportedly met earlier this week in Pittsburgh to discuss the parameters of a new contract.
It's uncertain, at this point, when a deal will be reached, though one could be finalized as early as next week.
