Will Blackhawks trade Khabibulin? TheFourthPeriod.com
With the addition of Cristobal Huet to the roster, the Blackhawks will be spending $12.3 million on two goaltenders next season.
"I don't care about that because it makes us better as a team," Hawks GM Dale Tallon told the Chicago Daily Herald. "You can't win without goaltending."
The Blackhawks signed Huet to a four-year contract worth $5.65 million per season yesterday, raising questions on Nikolai Khabibulin's future with the team.
Tallon indicated that he's not on the verge of pulling the trigger on a trade.
Various reports suggest a deal may be close with the Los Angeles Kings, which would free up cap space and allow the Blackhawks to pursue other free agents.
"We're capped out now," said Tallon, whose team is currently over the $56.7 salary cap. "A lot depends on if we make a trade or two in the next few days to free up some space.
Khabibulin is in the final year of a four-year, $27 million contract.
Teams are allowed to be 10-percent over the salary cap during the off-season.
