Russell signs two-year extension

The Calgary Flames have signed defenseman Kris Russell to a two-year contract extension worth $2.26 million per season.

Russell, a native of Red Deer, Alberta, has played 44 games this season with the Flames netting four goals and adding 16 assists for 20 points.

The Flames acquired Russell from St. Louis this past off-season in exchange for Calgary's fifth-round selection in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

In 408 career NHL games, Russell has recorded 27 goals and 88 assists for 115 points with Columbus, St. Louis and Calgary.

Russell was originally drafted in the third round of the 2005 NHL Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
