Backlund available from Flames?

The Calgary Flames are believed to be actively shopping young forward Mikael Backlund, according to the Ottawa Sun.

Backlund, 24, has struggled so far this season, registering two goals and four assists for six points in 21 games.

He has one-year left on his contract beyond this season, which comes with a salary cap hit of $1.5 million..

The Sun claims Flames GM Jay Feaster has let his counterparts know that Backlund and defenseman Shane O'Brien are available.

O'Brien, 30, also has one-year left on his deal after this season, though his cap hit is $2 million.

Feaster has several players he's willing to move, including forwards Michael Cammalleri and Lee Stempniak, both of whom are expected to be moved at some point this season.
