Babchuk signs with Donbass

Calgary Flames defenseman Anton Babchuk has jumped on board with HC Donbass of the KHL, becoming the third NHLer to sign with that club.

Babchuk, 28, registered two goals and eight assists for 10 points, and a plus-two rating, in 32 games with the Flames last season.

Winnipeg Jets right wing Alexei Ponikarovsky and Philadelphia Flyers left wing Ruslan Fedotenko have also signed with Donbass in the city of Donetsk.

KHL teams are allowed to sign a maximum of three NHL players during the NHL's lockout, while a max salary has been imposed of 65 per cent of what they earn under their NHL contracts.

Babchuk joins Flames forwards Jiri Hudler and Roman Cervenka to have signed overseas during the lockout.
