"Oh yeah, I intend to," Iginla said about staying a Flame. "I think we're going to be a playoff team. I believe that . . . I don't want to speak about the Eastern Conference, but the Western Conference is tight. I don't think there's any favorite front-runner. I think if you make the playoffs, you have a shot."
Following Monday night's loss to the Ducks, the Flames sit three points out of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference with a 24-22-7 record, good for 11th place.
However, the captain strongly believes his team can make the post-season.
Meanwhile, the Flames have remain adamant about their intentions to keep Iginla, who holds a no-movement clause and earns a $7 million cap hit on a five-year contract set to expire after the 2012-13 season.
In 53 games this season, Iginla has accumulated 20 goals and 22 assists for 42 points.
