Flames GM says Tanguay stays TheFourthPeriod.com
Despite all the speculation surrounding Alex Tanguay's future in Calgary, Flames GM Darryl Sutter told reporters on Monday that he will not trade the 28-year-old.
"I am not trading Tanguay," Sutter said.
The Montreal Canadiens and Florida Panthers were among the teams believed to be working on a trade for Tanguay, who has a no-trade clause and one-year left on his contract that pays him $5.25 million.
To date, Tanguay has tallied 14 goals and 35 assists for 49 points in 62 games this season.
The Flames were supposedly entertaining the thought of trading Tanguay to free up cap space so they can re-sign forwards Daymond Langkow and Kristian Huselius to extensions.
Sutter is also believed to be searching for a top-six forward and a depth defenseman as the trade deadline [Tuesday at 3pm ET] inches closer.
First it was Mats Sundin. Now, Alex Tanguay is off the market. The price tags for Marian Hossa, Vaclav Prospal, Brad Richards and Olli Jokinen just jumped up a notch.
