Jackets paying hefty price to Vegas

The Columbus Blue Jackets have a trade in place with the Vegas Golden Knights, as TFP has already reported, but the parameters of the deal are coming to life.

As reported by Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch, the Blue Jackets are sending a first-round pick (the 24th overall selection in this month's NHL Draft) and a prospect to the Golden Knights in exchange for not selecting certain exposed players in the expansion draft.

It's believed the Knights will also take on David Clarkson's contract as part of the trade.

According to Portzline, Vegas will select one of left wing Matt Calvert, center William Karlsson or defenseman Ryan Murray from the Blue Jackets.

All trades involving the Golden Knights are not expected to be made official/public until the expansion draft reveal on June 21.

The NHL's roster freeze kicks in today at 3pm ET, upon which teams cannot finalize trades with one another until June 22 at 8am ET. Teams can still make trades with Vegas during the freeze.

The Blue Jackets have been dangling Murray as trade bait and could still try to work out a trade with him in the mix before today's trade/waiver freeze. If he is dealt, the Knights would presumably pick between Calvert or Karlsson.
