Blue Jackets exploring market

The Columbus Blue Jackets have some salary cap space to play with leading up to the March 1 trade deadline and could look to add a piece or two in the coming weeks.

Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen and his staff are exploring the marketplace, weighing their options and coming up with various targets with the trade deadline just over five weeks away.

It's believed the Blue Jackets would like to add a center and could be eyeing Martin Hanzal of the Arizona Coyotes, among others.

Failing to add depth up the middle could result in the acquisition of a top-six winger.

It's unclear which prospects or young roster players the Blue Jackets are willing to move in exchange for a short-term rental player, or whether Kekalainen is more interested in adding a player with term on his contract, which could likely result in a larger move to accommodate the cap.
