Umberger and Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen both declined to comment on the situation, when contacted by the Dispatch.
The 32-year-old has three-years left on his five-year, $23 million deal. He's due $4.5 million per season in salary, though his cap hit is $4.6 million.
As per the Dispatch, Umberger's current no-trade clause turns into a limited no-trade clause on June 15, upon which the Pittsburgh native can provide a list of 10 teams he will not accept a trade to.
The Blue Jackets will be looking to improve their club for next season, and are expected to go after a top-six forward. Kekalainen may look to package Umberger in a larger deal for an offensive-minded winger.
The Dispatch suggests that Umberger's lack of playing time and being scratched near the end of the season may have factored into his decision for demanding a trade.
