Blue Jackets sign Horton

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed unrestricted free agent right wing Nathan Horton to a seven-year, $37.1 million contract.

Horton, 28, informed the Boston Bruins he was moving on shortly after they lost in the Stanley Cup Final to the Chicago Blackhawks.

He registered 13 goals and nine assists for 22 points in 43 games with the Bruins this past season.

Horton, who visited the Blue Jackets earlier in the week, will require shoulder surgery, though, and is expected to miss the first two-to-three months of the 2013-14 regular-season.

In 591 career NHL regular-season games with the Florida Panthers and Bruins, Horton has accumulated 198 goals and 204 assists for 402 points.

Drafted third-overall by Florida in 2003, Horton was traded to Boston, along with Gregory Campbell, on June 22, 2010.
