"We're going to add a scoring forward, one way or the other," Kekalainen told the Dispatch. "We have some good plans and a great opportunity ahead of us."
According to the paper, the Blue Jackets could target the likes of such free agents as David Clarkson (New Jersey), Nathan Horton (Boston), Viktor Stalberg (Chicago), Valtteri Filppula (Detroit), Danny Briere (Philadelphia), Damien Brunner (Detroit), Ryane Clowe (New York Rangers) and Clarke MacArthur (Toronto)
"The top guys, you're going to try to have them visit," Kekalainen said. "You won't fly the whole list in, but if we have interest in a player and they have interest in us, we'll do what we need to do. We're going to go after the No. 1 guy on our list, and if he doesn't want to come, we'll scratch him off and go to the next."
If the Blue Jackets are unable to sign a top-six forward on the open market, they'll continue their search on the trade wire.
Kekalainen has spoken to several teams, including the St. Louis Blues about left wing David Perron and the Boston Bruins about center Tyler Seguin, but he's yet to pull the trigger on a deal.
