Atkinson signs 2-year extension

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed forward Cam Atkinson to a two-year, $2.3 million contract extension.

Atkinson, 23, will make $1.125 million in 2013-14 and $1.175 million in 2014-15.

"Cam is a highly skilled and exciting player who continues to evolve in all aspects of his game," said Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen. "He battles hard every night, has a great determination to succeed and we are pleased that he will continue to be an important member of our hockey club."

Atkinson has tallied eight goals and eight assists for 16 points with four penalty minutes and a plus-7 rating in 42 games played this season.

Originally selected by Columbus with its eighth pick, 157th overall, at the 2008 NHL Draft, he signed a two-year entry level contract with the club on Mar. 27, 2011.
