Brassard is heading to Austria
TheFourthPeriod.com

Columbus Blue Jackets center Derick Brassard has decided to join EC Red Bull of Austria's Erste Bank Eishockey Liga and will head over this weekend.

Brassard, 25, joins Boston Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk and Winnipeg Jets defenseman Tobias Enstrom on EC Red Bull.

New Jersey Devils forward David Clarkson signed with the club on Oct. 24, but only spent a few weeks in Austria before returning to his off-season home in Toronto.

In 74 games with the Blue Jackets last season, Brassard registered 14 goals and 27 assists for 41 points.

He joins Columbus teammates Jared Boll, Fedor Tyutin, Vinny Prospal, Nikita Nikitin, Sergei Bobrovsky and Artem Anisimov to sign overseas during the NHL lockout.

Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch first reported the news.
