"There hasn't been anything said to me," soon-to-be unrestricted free agent Curtis Sanford told the Dispatch. "There are still 30 games left. The trade deadline is in less than three weeks. I think a lot of things are up in the air with a lot of guys, not only in this dressing room but in a lot of dressing rooms around the league."
Trade rumors keep swirling around center Jeff Carter and captain Rick Nash, as veterans, free agents or not, could be dealt depending on how extensive the rebuilding process will be.
"The next two weeks are going to be a big two weeks," interim coach Todd Richards added.
Defenseman James Wisniewski, who practiced on Wednesday and is likely to return from an ankle injury next week, is considered to be a rare untouchable as he holds a modified no-trade clause in his contract that runs through 2017.
Meanwhile, Howson will continue to explore the market as the majority of his players, including Carter, Nash, Kristian Huselius, Samuel Pahlsson and Fedor Tyutin could find themselves on the trade block between now and the Feb. 27 deadline.
