"Something has to give, you'd think," one league executive told the Sun. "They're going nowhere."
Captain Rick Nash, who has been at the center of several trade rumors, though management continues to ensure they will not move the star forward, could waive his no-movement clause and give the Jackets a much-needed fresh start to a rebuilding process.
The 27-year-old could fetch a huge return for the club, while Nash could get a chance at a Cup run for only the second time in his nine-year career.
In the meantime, the Blue Jackets keep trying to deal center Antoine Vermette, while Howson could be busy between now and the Feb. 27 trade deadline with several other players available, including forwards Derick Brassard, Kristian Huselius, Samuel Pahlsson, and Vinny Prospal, and defenseman Fedor Tyutin.
