Columbus Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson is looking for a stead, reliable defenseman to bolster his club's defensive group.
With Rostislav Klesla, whom the Blue Jackets' coaching staff has deemed their best defenseman of the season, out until mid-January, the team has added pressure to find a replacement.
According to various reports, Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Aaron Ward could be a potential target.
It's also believed the Blue Jackets would entertain the thought of trading forward Nikita Filatov, who is spending the rest of the season overseas in the KHL, however such a move is not guaranteed.

I don't see the Blue Jackets moving Filatov, primarily because I don't see another team offering up fair value at this point, due to the fact that he is in Russia this year. As for the blueline, yes the Blue Jackest want to make a move and add a solid veteran defenseman, and GM Scott Howson is looking, but nothing seems imminent. -- David Pagnotta
