The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed center Derick Brassard to a four-year contract extension worth $13 million.

Brassard, 22, tallied 10 goals and 15 assists for 25 points with 17 penalty minutes 31 games in 2008-09 before suffering a season-ending injury at Dallas on December 18.

"We are pleased to have Derick under contract for the next five years," said Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson. "Derick's determination, passion and talent make us believe he will be an important part of our team in the coming years."

The native of Hull, Quebec was the club's first pick, sixth overall, in the 2006 Entry Draft.
