Blue Jackets focused on signing Nash

TheFourthPeriod.com

The Blue Jackets top priority this summer is to get superstar forward Rick Nash signed to a new long-term contract extension.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, a deal is likely to happen in the near future.

Nash, who made $6.5 million this past season, will command a lengthy contract -- around the seven-year range -- at a similar price tag.

Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson appears confident a deal will be reached, which allows him to focus on improving other areas of his team through the free agent market.

The Blue Jackets are expected to go after a backup goaltender and a mobile defenseman.

It's believed some players the team is targeting are goalies Ty Conklin and Mathieu Garon, and defenseman Dennis Seidenberg.
