Coach Muller safe in Carolina?

With Ron Francis poised to replace Jim Rutherford as GM of the Carolina Hurricanes, the future of head coach Kirk Muller has come into question.

Rutherford is expected to step down as GM, but remain President of the hockey club, upon which Francis will start running the ship in the coming weeks.

It has been widely speculated that Muller could be fired this off-season, however TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie doesn't believe that decision has been made.

"There is still plenty of consideration going on to keeping Muller as the head coach," McKenzie said during Thursday night's Insider Trading segment on TSN.

The Hurricanes struggled this season and failed for make the playoffs, prompting speculation that a change behind the bench could be made.

Muller, 48, is wrapping up his third-season as head coach of the Hurricanes. He was hired on Nov. 28, 2011.

The Hurricanes have missed the playoffs in all three seasons since Muller took over as coach.
