Canes might look to add goalie

The Carolina Hurricanes received a huge blow on Thursday night, losing goaltender Cam Ward for the next three-to-four weeks with a lower body injury.

Ward was injured in the early part of the first period of Thursday's game against Minnesota.

With Anton Khudobin also out of action for an unknown period of time, the Hurricanes had to put Justin Peters between the pipes for the remainder of the game.

The Hurricanes will recall goaltender Mike Murphy from the AHL's Charlotte Checkers prior to Friday night's game in Denver against the Colorado Avalanche, but the team might be forced to find help elsewhere.

It's possible Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford looks at the free agent market, as a few proven NHL netminders are still looking for work.

Jose Theodore, Rick DiPietro, Johan Hedberg and Ilya Bryzgalov remain available, and it's possible the Hurricanes will look to sign one of them given their dilemma between the pipes.

Rutherford could also go the trade route, but he doesn't appear overly interested in giving away an asset for a short-term fix.
