Hurricanes sign free agent Gerbe

The Carolina Hurricanes have signed unrestricted free agent left wing Nathan Gerbe to a one-year, two-way contract.

Gerbe, 26, will earn $550,000 at the NHL level, or $150,000 at the AHL level, with a guarantee of at least $250,000.

In 42 games with the Buffalo Sabres last season, Gerbe recorded five goals and five assists for 10 points.

Selected by the Sabres in the fifth round, 142nd overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, Gerbe has totaled 29 goals and 43 assists (72 points) in 188 career NHL games, all with Buffalo.
