Hurricanes sign Komisarek

The Carolina Hurricanes have signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Mike Komisarek to a one-year contract.

Komisarek, 31, had one-year left on a five-year, $22.5 million deal he signed in 2009 with the Toronto Maple Leafs before being bought out.

Komisarek was limited to just four games with the Leafs this past season. He tallied one goal, four assists and five points in 45 games with the club last season.

The native of West Islip, New York, was originally drafted seventh overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
