Canes acquire Sekera from Sabres

The Carolina Hurricanes have traded the 35th overall pick in the NHL Draft and defenseman Jamie McBain to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for defenseman Andrej Sekera.

McBain, 25, tallied one goal, seven assists and 46 penalty minutes in 40 games with Carolina this past season.

In 206 career NHL games, he has picked up 19 goals and 56 assists for 75 points, and 297 penalty minutes.

He was originally drafted by the Hurricanes in the second-round (63rd overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

Sekera, 27, registered two goals and 10 assists for 12 points in 37 games with the Sabres this last season.

In 339 career NHL regular-season games, all with Buffalo, Sekera has accumulated 17 goals and 75 assists for 92 points.

He was drafted by the Sabres in the third-round (71st overall) in 2004.
