McBain still available for trade

Even though Carolina lost Joni Pitkanen for the remainder of the season following a significant injury in Tuesday night's game, the Hurricanes are still entertaining calls for defenseman Jamie McBain.

Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford is looking to reshape his blueline, and started yesterday by acquiring Marc-Andre Bergeron from the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Pitkanen injury will factor into Rutherford's decision, but if the right offer comes across his desk for McBain, he's willing to pull the trigger.

Rutherford is looking at acquiring a defenseman from another team, and is believed to be eyeing Phoenix Coyotes blueliner Derek Morris.

Morris, 34, is being dangled by the Coyotes and would prefer to deal him to an Eastern Conference club.

The Hurricanes are also believed to be inquiring about New York Islanders captain Mark Streit, who was unable to come to terms on an extension with the club.

Islanders GM Garth Snow is willing to deal Streit, for the right price, but he's not itching to deal him.
