McBain on the market

With the trade deadline approaching, a new name surfaced this morning that is likely to draw some interest from teams searching for help on the blueline.

According to TSN's Darren Dreger, Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jamie McBain is on the market.

McBain was drafted 63rd overall by the Hurricanes in the 2006 NHL Draft. At 6-foot-2, 200 pounds, he averages slightly over 19 minutes of ice time per game.

Although he has struggled this year, McBain led the Carolina defensemen with eight goals and 19 assists last season.

Additionally, McBain is not a rental player. The 25-year-old has one more year left on his contract with a cap hit of only $1.8 million. After next season, he will become a restricted free agent.

Nothing appears to be in the works yet, but Carolina is open to offers.
