Ward out with lower-body injury

Carolina Hurricanes netminder Cam Ward was sidelined for Monday night's game against the Washington Capitals due to an unspecified lower body injury, the Associated Press reports.

Ward didn't start Friday night against the San Jose Sharks and left Saturday's game against the New York Islanders after the second period after what coach Kirk Muller called a "slight tweak."

Following the Canes' pregame morning skate, Muller had stated that backup goalie Justin Peters would start against the Caps with AHL call-up Mike Murphy as his backup.

Ward is listed as day-to-day and Muller hopes the 27-year-old will be healthy for the Hurricanes' next game on Thursday night against the Anaheim Ducks.

In 51 games with the Canes this season, Ward has posted a .911 save percentage and 2.81 goals-against average.
