Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Joni Pitkanen underwent knee surgery on Tuesday, reports the Raleigh News & Observer.
The 28-year-old, who had been sidelined for 11 games with a concussion, is likely to miss an additional four weeks of action due to the procedure on his injured left knee.
In 21 games with the Canes this season, Pitkanen has recorded three goals and nine assists for 12 points.
This latest update on the Finnish defenseman, who was the team's top-scoring blueliner when he was sidelined in December, is a blow for a team that is already sitting in last place of the Eastern Conference.
