Laviolette's job is safe, says GM

Hurricanes head coach Peter Laviolette doesn't have to worry about his future with the club, Carolina GM Jim Rutherford told the Raleigh News & Observer.

Various reports have suggested that Laviolette's job might be in jeopardy if the Hurricanes fail to start the season on a positive note.

"I don't want to enter the season with anybody being under the gun," Rutherford said. "It's not fair for someone to go into a season under that kind of pressure."

"When Peter is focused he's a very, very good coach."

Meanwhile, the Hurricanes are believed to be shopping defensemen Frantisek Kaberle and Joe Corvo, according to published reports.
