Hurricanes re-sign Walker TheFourthPeriod.com
The Carolina Hurricanes have re-signed right wing Scott Walker to a three-year, $7.5 million contract.
"Keeping Scott in Carolina was one of our top priorities this off-season," said Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford. "He brings skill and grit to our forward lines and he has become one of our team's leaders on and off the ice."
Walker, 33, joined the Hurricanes in 2006-07 after an off-season trade brought him to Carolina from Nashville.
In his first season with the Hurricanes, Walker registered 21 goals, 30 assists and 51 points, and amassed 45 penalty minutes in 81 games.
In 688 career regular-season games with Vancouver, Nashville and Carolina, Walker has scored 127 goals, earned 215 assists (342 points) and accumulated 976 penalty minutes.
Walker rejected an initial offer from the team last month and it was believed he'd test the free agent market. In turns out the Hurricanes really wanted him back and signed up to a new contract.
