Sabres acquire Beaulieu from Canadiens

The Buffalo Sabres have acquired defenseman Nathan Beaulieu from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for a 2017 third-round draft pick.

Beaulieu, 24, can become a restricted free agent July 1 after wrapping up a two-year, $2 million contract.

In 74 games with the Canadiens this season, Beaulieu registered four goals and 24 assists for 28 points and 44 penalty minutes.

The native of Strathroy, Ontario, has played in 225 career NHL regular-season games, all with Montreal, and has accumulated seven goals and 53 assists for 60 points.

He was originally drafted 17th overall by the Habs in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
