Buffalo Sabres captain Brian Gionta is an unrestricted free agent this summer, and while his name has popped up in trade speculation, he has told the team he wants to stay.
In his latest "30 Thoughts" column on Sportsnet.ca, Elliotte Friedman reports Gionta has informed the Sabres "he would like to stay with the organization and not be traded."
Gionta, 38, has a limited no-trade clause where he can list only five teams he would accept a trade to.
His teammates Dmitry Kulikov and Cody Franson, however, could be on the move between now and the March 1 trade deadline.
Kulikov and Franson are also set to become unrestricted free agents this summer and are expected to be moved in the coming weeks.
In 56 games with the Sabres so far this season, Gionta has registered 12 goals and 15 assists for 27 points. He is currently 20 games away from 1,000 on his career.
