TheFourthPeriod.com

The Buffalo Sabres have bought out the remaining seven years of defenseman Christian Ehrhoff's contract.

Ehrhoff, 31, will now become an unrestricted free agent.

In 79 games with the Sabres this past season, Ehrhoff registered six goals and 27 assists for 33 points.

Ehrhoff signed a 10-year, $40 million contract with the Sabres on June 20, 2011.

Originally selected in the fourth round (106th overall) by the San Jose Sharks at the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Ehrhoff has scored 69 goals and 244 assists in 692 career games with the Sharks, Sabres and Vancouver Canucks.
