Owner wants to keep Miller, Vanek

Buffalo Sabres owner Terry Pegula has made it clear that he wants to keep goalie Ryan Miller and sniper Thomas Vanek in Buffalo beyond next season.

Pegula, speaking earlier today to Buffalo sports radio station WGR-550, reiterated that he wants to keep his two stars.

"Yes, we want them here," Pegula said. "I can tell the fans I'm concerned, too. ... They have a say in that decision. What that decision is? No one's been re-signed. So we're still working."

The Sabres haven't spoken with the agents for Vanek or Miller about contract extension, but it's unclear if either player is interested in signing new deals.

It has been widely reported that Miller played his last season in Buffalo this year. The Sabres entertained trade calls for Miller around the trade deadline and negotiations should continue this off-season.

Sources have told TFP that Vanek is not interested in an extension and would even welcome a trade out of town.

While the final decisions on Miller and Vanek might be out of Pegula's control, he remains willing to spend big money to attract top-tier talent to Buffalo. But with a fairly thin free agent market, the Sabres might be looking at the trade market for upgrades this summer.
