With nine defensemen on the roster competing for six spots, the Buffalo Sabres are going to have to make a move after already losing one defenseman on waivers.
Earlier this week, the New York Islanders claimed Joe Finley off waivers from the Sabres.
The Sabres now have Tyler Myers, Robyn Regehr, Christian Ehrhoff, Andrej Sekera, Jordan Leopold, Alexander Sulzer, Adam Pardy, Mike Weber and T.J. Brennan on the backend, and GM Darcy Regier is actively trying to trade one of them.
"You'd prefer trade versus waivers for the individual," Regier told the Buffalo News this week. "If the player can't play here, you'd hope that they'd have an opportunity elsewhere and you can get something in return for that as well."
With the likes of Myers and Ehrhoff aren't on the block, and it's unlikely the Sabres will move Leopold, Regehr or Sulzer, the rest of the pack seems to be fair game.
Several teams, including the Detroit Red Wings, Carolina Hurricanes and Minnesota wild are looking for depth on their blueline and could be a suitor for one of Buffalo's extra blueliners.
